Tennant's Extra

Brown pinstripe suit w/lionels and Dunlops == Cobol programmer.

Ugh. Bad mojo.

(Though for the full effect, you'd want a knitted tie, real-ale beard and a copies of Practicals Caravan, Computing and Electronics in a 70s Sainsbury's carrier.)

The big geek question round here is "if Sarah Jane Smith is coming back, is her toy?"

Well RTD did get him into 'Queer as...' so surely any excuse?

Ah, just figured out what hirez is talking about. I'm with Sarah he's cute, but Christopher Eccleston will be a hard act to follow.

Practical Wireless still ran computing articles that far back.

Ye-es, but the brown-suit brigade would be more likely to follow the writings of Dr. A.A. Berk, rather than the morse-powered blue anorak pilotry of PW.

Full disclosure: While I built a UK101 from bits (and still have it somewhere), and have only recently lost my name badge from the Anorak Pilot Corporation (I was head of PR. It was ironic in 1990), the colour brown has always filled me with existential terror.

Pretentious brown-suit merchants would by Elektor or the other mag that did the Powertran kits.

I used to buy Elektor. Never built anything from it successfully, but ...

That's a rotten trick. You've never felt the lure of a sports jacket in a nice tweed?

Now it's funny you should say that 'cos I used to be a Cobol Programmer (no real ale beard of course) and I distinctly thought 'Jeez, I used to work with guys who dressed like that'. Bad mojo indeed!

Don't forget the peculiar interest in molluscs, the OU-watching specs and the amazing polyness (with a COBOL programmer ?) for that full C*l*nc@cix effect.

Nah, that's modern Hoxton for you. All he needs is the fin hairdo and he's there.

Beards and caravans are too Seventies to be cool late Nineties.

Dear God. That'll be the youth doing something I despair of. About time too.

Though I have to admit I still covet a single-breasted black suit.

(No, ma'am. We're musicians.)

I have several black single-breasted suits, and i love them. Worryingly, I'm sometimes shaped somewhat in the John Belushi mould, I have sideburns, and occasionally wear sunglasses. Thankfully I look bad in hats and don't wear them, and don't wear plain black ties, so I manage to avoid being a stylistic cliche.

When's it coming out? Is this just publicity shots or clips?

I didn't actually see any of the last one until this weekend, then watched them all in under 24 hours, spoiling my mum's birthday for my sister and her hubbie in the process (they'd seen them all before, twice).

My mum didn't mind though so that's okay.

Reckon they got it pretty much exactly right, bit deus-ex-machina at the end though, how are they going to follow all that hoo-hah?

Andrew.
